那「去睡覺」英語怎麼說？

很多人脫口而出「 go to sleep」，

但播哥要告訴你，這是錯的！

「去睡覺」不是go to sleep

很多人認為， go是去， sleep是睡覺，

go to sleep自然就是「去睡覺」。

這又犯了中文思維直譯的錯誤。

其實， go to sleep指「 睡著、入睡」，

強調的是「 已經睡著」的狀態。

【例句】

You‘ll find that your baby usually goes to sleep after a feed

你會發現你的寶寶通常吃飽后就睡著了。

另外，go to sleep還可以表示：

因為坐、躺太久，手腳發麻。

【例句】

I have been sitting for too long， my leg has gone to sleep.

我坐得太久了，腿都麻了。

回到睡覺這件事上來。

我們說「去睡覺」，強調的是動作，

也就是「上床睡覺，但還沒有睡著」。

所以，「去睡覺」應該說：go to bed

更地道的表達，可以用下面的俚語：

hit the hay 或  hit the sack

I went to bed at ten， but I didn‘t go to sleep until midnight.

十點我就上床了，可直到午夜才睡著。

「睡得晚」不是sleep late

晚上睡得比較晚，

也不能直譯為 sleep late。

sleep late可以這樣理解：

sleep強調「睡著的狀態」，

而late強調「超出預期時間的」，

睡著的狀態超出預期的時間，

也就是「 睡過頭，起得晚」的意思。

【例句】

I sleep late on Sundays.

我禮拜天睡到很晚才起床。

隨便提一下，

「睡過頭」還可以說：

但要注意，sleep over是指：

「借宿，在別人家過夜」。

再回到我們所說的「睡得晚、熬夜」，

英語可以這樣說：

go to bed late（很晚上床睡覺）

stay up late（熬夜）

下次不要再晚上熬夜了。

go back to sleep

字面意思：回去睡覺，

可以用來： 批評別人注意力不集中。

B：Oh， go back to sleep！

噢，你回去睡覺算了！

sleep ≠ 睡覺

很多人只知道 sleep是「睡覺」，
