相信沒有人會把 carry the day 意為「攜帶日子」，原因很簡單，當 carry 意為「攜帶」時，所攜帶的對象是具體的，而 the day 是抽象的東西，那麼 carry the day 要如何理解才合理呢？

一、carry 意為「承擔（責任），承受（結果）」，例如：

Carry the day 是一個習語，來源于拉丁語 victoriam reportare，意為「to carry off the honors of the day」，此時的 carry 也是「抽象」的用法，因為這里的賓語 the honors of day 是抽象的，然而它的實際意思有點不同。

原因是 carry off 是一個短語動詞，顧名思義，小品詞 off 會改變 carry 原先的意思，此時 carry off 意為「贏得，獲得「，那麼 carry off the honors of the day，也即 carry off the day 就是贏得榮譽的意思，例如：

For all fierce opposition， the ruling party carried the day.

盡管遭到強烈反對，執政黨還是獲勝了。
